The Dutch word for labia is often literally “shame lips” (schaamlippen). Schaamteloos invites everyone to swap that loaded term for vulvalippen — accurate, stigma-free vocabulary that respects our bodies.
Words shape how safe we feel talking about sexuality, anatomy and boundaries. Schaamteloos is a grassroots language campaign aiming for dictionaries, classrooms and everyday conversations to leave shame out of sex ed. Explore the pledge, toolkit and storytelling on schaamteloos.org — supported by The Social Code Foundation.
When anatomical vocabulary carries the word “shame,” it teaches us to whisper, hide — or disconnect from pleasure and boundaries altogether.
By normalising vulvalippen alongside other neutral body terms, the campaign presses for inclusion in major Dutch dictionaries while giving educators, journalists and households language that aligns with bodily autonomy. Jump in via schaamteloos.org/en.
